What is a permitted development?
A permitted development or “permitted development rights” is a right which allows you to make certain types of minor changes to your home without needing to apply for planning permission. They derive from a general planning permission granted by Parliament and not by the local council.
Please be aware that the permitted development rights which apply to many common projects for houses do not apply to flats, maisonettes or other buildings.
For more information regarding permitted development rights you can contact your local council or visit Planning Portal for more detailed information.
